In a bold and colorful release, The Afro Nick seems set to make a statement with his debut "Get There Before Noon (LA Mix)"— one of rejecting the usual musical norms and letting creativity thrive in unconstrained experimentation. The song operates on the fringes of rock music, bringing a vibrant cocktail of sounds inspired by modernistic production and timeless classic rock; the result is as riveting as it can get!
Nick's musical journey extends well before this project: now based in America, the artist grew up amidst a lively culture on the sun-kissed island of Crete, absorbing the rich culture of folk music. By 2009, he had formed the indie-rock band ‘Stray Blue’ and toured extensively there, ultimately moving to Los Angeles afterward. A fierce believer in expressing oneself through music, Nick has fashioned an idiosyncratic brand (prominently with his signature afro hairstyle), dominantly present from the very first official song uploaded online.
At first, we are acquainted with bit-crushed, Arcade-reminiscent synths that bleep playfully and are coupled with overdriven, tonally shifting psychedelic guitars— crafting varying textures meant to grab the listener's attention with details. The artist's disposition, on the contrary, remains introspective, as he speculates about missing out on life with burdening self-regrets. Simultaneously, the production unveils several elements (from a snippet of a ping-pong ball being dropped on the floor to pulsating synth riffs). Reaching a crescendo in the final chorus, the vocalist turns hopeful and determined by the second, uplifting the mood with an impactful finish.
